Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech

Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech to Essaouira

Departure & Drive Through the Haouz Plains

Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech begins with a relaxing drive through the wide Haouz plains and beautiful Moroccan countryside. After around one hour and a half on the road, we arrive at the small town of Chichaoua, known as a traditional stop for travelers heading toward the Atlantic coast. First, here we take a short break to stretch our legs, enjoy Moroccan mint tea or coffee in a local café, and use the restroom before continuing the journey. Moreover, it is also a good chance to see everyday life in a quiet Moroccan town. Therefore, the stop adds both comfort and cultural insight to the experience.

Argan Forests & the Sidi Mokhtar Village

Subsequently, we continue to the village of Sidi Mokhtar, an area known for its argan trees. If we are lucky, we may see goats climbing the branches in search of fruit, a unique and famous sight in Morocco. In addition, after taking photos or simply enjoying the countryside, we move on toward Ounagha.

Women’s Argan Oil Cooperative

Around 11 AM, we stop at one of the largest women’s cooperatives producing argan oil. Furthermore, here you can learn about the traditional methods used to create Morocco’s liquid gold, from cracking the nuts to pressing the oil. As a result, you not only gain a deeper understanding of local craftsmanship but also directly support local communities and women’s work.

Exploring Essaouira’s Medina & Coastline

Upon arrival in Essaouira, a professional local guide will meet us at the entrance of the medina. Together we explore the lively fishing port, the UNESCO-listed old town, Moulay Hassan Square, art galleries, workshops, and the Skala ramparts with their historic cannons. Moreover, you will also have time to walk along the sandy beach and enjoy the fresh Atlantic breeze.

Seafront Lunch & Return to Marrakech

Following the sightseeing, lunch is served in a seafront restaurant with delicious seafood. Consequently, by the time we are ready to leave, you will feel refreshed and fully immersed in the spirit of Essaouira. Finally, in the afternoon we start the return journey and arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, around 7 to 7:30 PM — marking the end of the Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech.
