4 Day Tour from Marrakech to M'Hamid al Ghizlan Desert

The 4 Day from Marrakech to M’Hamid Desert follows the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass to the Kasbah of Telouet and Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 4 Day Tour from Marrakech to M’Hamid al Ghizlan Desert continues through the Draa Valley, Zagora, and Tamgroute, where you will visit the Nasiriyya Library, the historic Quranic School, and the famous green pottery workshops before arriving in M’Hamid El Ghizlane. From there, ride a camel across the dunes to your luxury desert camp. The return route follows the Draa Valley to Ouarzazate before crossing the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech.

Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou

Your 4 Day Marrakech to M’Hamid Luxury Desert Adventure begins with a pick-up from accommodation in Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and continue to the Kasbah of Telouet, built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries by the influential Glaoui family. Afterwards, head to Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar dating back to the 11th century during the Almoravid period. Explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site before settling into your riad for an overnight stay in Ait Ben Haddou at Riad Maktoub or similar.

Day 2Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora – Tamgroute – M'Hamid Desert

Continue south through the magnificent Draa Valley, home to thousands of palm trees and ancient kasbahs. Reach Zagora before heading to Tamgroute, famous for its green pottery workshops, the 17th-century Nasiriyya Library, and historic Quranic school. Later, arrive in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the vast Sahara Desert. Enjoy a memorable camel ride across the dunes before reaching your luxury desert camp for dinner and an overnight stay at Caravane du Sud or similar.

Day 3M'Hamid Desert – Tamgroute – Zagora – Ouarzazate

Wake up early to admire a spectacular Sahara sunrise before breakfast at the camp. Afterwards, leave M’Hamid and head to Tamgroute to visit its famous green pottery workshops, the historic Nasiriyya Library founded in the 17th century, and the ancient Quranic School, an important center of Islamic learning for centuries. Continue through Zagora and the beautiful Draa Valley, passing palm groves and traditional Berber villages before arriving in Ouarzazate for dinner and an overnight stay at Riad Bouchedor or similar.

Day 4Ouarzazate – Marrakech

This morning, leave Ouarzazate and cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking landscapes, traditional Berber villages, and panoramic mountain views. Several stops will be made for photos and refreshments before continuing to Marrakech. faq for: 4 Day Marrakech to M'Hamid Luxury Desert Adventure

Good to know before you travel

How will I meet my driver on the day of departure?

If you arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport, your driver will be waiting for you at the arrival exit gate, holding a sign with your full name. Once you meet, your driver will warmly welcome you, help with your luggage, and escort you to your comfortable vehicle. If your tour starts from your hotel or riad, your driver will come directly to the accommodation you provided during your booking at the agreed pickup time. If your riad is located inside the old Medina, where vehicles cannot enter, the driver will walk to your riad to meet you there and accompany you to the vehicle.

Will this be a private tour or a shared tour?

This is a 100% private tour, reserved exclusively for you, your family, or your group. You will travel in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle with your own English-speaking driver. No other travelers will join your tour, giving you the freedom to enjoy Morocco at your own pace, with flexible photo stops and a more personal experience throughout your journey.

Is luggage assistance included during the tour?

Yes. Luggage assistance is included throughout the tour. Your driver will be happy to help load and unload your luggage at each stop. If you are staying in a riad inside the old Medina or have several suitcases, the driver will arrange a local luggage porter to help transport your bags to or from your accommodation, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience.

Will I need to do any long walks during the tour?

No. This tour does not require any long walks. Most attractions are reached by vehicle, followed by short walks to explore the sites. The only longer walk is at Ait Ben Haddou, where exploring the ancient fortified village and walking to the hilltop viewpoint takes about 1 to 1.5 hours round trip. If you prefer not to complete the full walk, you can explore the lower part of the village at your own pace.

Do we take all our luggage to the desert camp?

Yes. Your main luggage will be transported safely to the desert camp by a 4×4 vehicle, so you only need to take a small backpack with your personal essentials during the camel ride. Once you arrive at the camp, your luggage will already be waiting for you inside your private tent. If you choose the 4×4 transfer instead of the camel ride, you can take all of your luggage with you directly to the camp.

Can I exchange or withdraw money in the Sahara Desert?

No. There are no reliable currency exchange services or ATMs in the Sahara Desert. We recommend withdrawing or exchanging enough money before reaching the desert, preferably in cities such as Marrakech or Ouarzazate. Your driver can stop at a suitable ATM or exchange office along the way if needed.
