Tour Details

Essaouira coastal day trip from Marrakech begins with a scenic drive across the Haouz plains, and after about an hour and a half we stop in the town of Chichaoua to stretch, enjoy mint tea or coffee, and use the restroom before continuing the journey. As we move on toward Sidi Mokhtar, travelers may have the chance to see goats climbing the branches of argan trees, and if we spot them we pause for photos, otherwise we continue our way. Then, around 11 AM, we arrive in Ounagha where we visit a women’s cooperative to discover how argan oil is traditionally produced, and afterwards we continue toward the coast. Upon reaching Essaouira, a local guide welcomes us and leads a walking tour through the fishing port, the UNESCO-listed medina, Moulay Hassan Square, and the Skala ramparts with views over the Atlantic. Later, you can stroll along the sandy beach, taste fresh seafood in a seafront restaurant, and relax with the sea breeze before finally returning to Marrakech in the evening around 7:00–7:30 PM.

Itinerary

Day 1Essaouira coastal day trip from Marrakech

Essaouira coastal day trip from Marrakech begins with a drive of about an hour and a half through the Haouz plains until we reach the small town of Chichaoua. Here we take a short break to stretch our legs, enjoy Moroccan mint tea or coffee in a local café, and use the restroom before continuing the journey. It is also a good chance to see everyday life in a quiet Moroccan town.

We then continue to the village of Sidi Mokhtar, an area known for its argan trees. If we are lucky, we may see goats climbing the branches in search of fruit, a unique and famous sight in Morocco. After taking photos or simply enjoying the countryside, we move on toward Ounagha. Around 11 AM, we stop at one of the largest women’s cooperatives producing argan oil. Here you can learn about the traditional methods used to create Morocco’s liquid gold, from cracking the nuts to pressing the oil, while supporting local communities and women’s work.

When we arrive in Essaouira, a professional local guide will meet us at the entrance of the medina. Together we explore the lively fishing port, the UNESCO-listed old town, Moulay Hassan Square, art galleries, workshops, and the Skala ramparts with their historic cannons. You will also have time to walk along the sandy beach and enjoy the fresh Atlantic breeze. After sightseeing, lunch is served in a seafront restaurant with delicious seafood. In the afternoon we start the return journey and arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, around 7 to 7:30 PM.
